UK Government Files Expose Internal Doubts Over Mandelson Role
The newly released dossier regarding the appointment of Peter Mandelson to the position of the UK Ambassador to the US reveals several issues, including the internal concerns of the British government regarding this appointment and the terms of his short-lived appointment. According to the contractual agreement, Mandelson has been appointed for a four-year term, starting in February 2025, for an annual salary of 157,000 pounds, and he requires the highest level of security clearance, or Developed Vetting. Nevertheless, according to the released documents, there are several issues, including the concerns of several officials, such as National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, regarding the "weirdly rushed" appointment of Mandelson, including his association with the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, particularly regarding the fact that their relationship continued even after Epstein's conviction in 2008. After his dismissal in late 2025, Mandelson requested "maximum dignity" regarding his dismissal, while the staff of the British government initiated daily welfare checks on him.
